Glimmers

“A glimmer is a faint and wavering light reflecting on the water's surface- brief, yet captivating, it dances along the blue surface.”

Within the play of light and shadow, the glimmer emerges, as a faint and wavering presence, delicately reflecting on the water's surface. It is a transient enchantment, yet profoundly captivating, as it dances gracefully along the blue-green canvas.

The notion of the 'brief' immediately conjures a vivid image of a mesmerising dance on a blue surface, evoking the imagery of mermaids swirling beneath, their movements casting glimmers that ripple across the water's expanse.

Throughout history, the sea and its mysteries have been a wellspring of human imagination. We conjure the existence of cities crafted from ivory shells, or the presence of tentacled beasts lurking amidst the seaweed. How do these coexisting realms beneath the waves harmonise? For me, it is a question that invites both speculation and wonder.

Those glimmers, especially on sun-kissed summer days, when all is tranquil above the waves, evoke a sense of timeless allure. In those moments, bare skin sparkles, and memories and chance encounters, whether fleeting or enduring, etch themselves into the fabric of our lives.

I hope my exploration of this theme is lighthearted but profoundly human, touching upon both the nostalgia and the anticipatory joy of long summer days, while delving into the enigmatic secrets that lie just beneath the surface of both humans and the sea.

Celtic Women

As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, the essence of our connection to land, sea, and lore continues to shape our lives, often in subtle yet profound ways.

Celtic Women delves into the lives of 21st-century Irish women, revealing how ancient ties and private passions intertwine in their daily experiences.

Upon closer examination, these women are not merely participants in contemporary life—they are the custodians of quiet rituals that feed the soul. From the simple act of filling bird feeders to revel in the joy of birdwatching, to scattering wildflower seeds as an act of hope and renewal, their lives are imbued with a reverence for nature and its mysteries. The cold, unforgiving sea calls to them, and in braving its depths, they seek out secrets known only to those willing to embrace its chill.

In an ever-evolving world, these women embody a dynamic blend of tradition and transformation. As Ireland becomes a more diverse and interconnected society, the Celtic spirit adapts and grows, enriched by the wisdom of many cultures. The women of this new Celtic tribe are resilient and curious, ever learning, ever becoming. They are the bearers of an ancient legacy, reimagined for a new age—always rooted in the past, yet reaching toward an even more vibrant future.

Contemporary Celtic

In the quiet moments of our contemporary lives, the echoes of ancestral wisdom still resonate, subtly shaping our choices, our thoughts, and our existence. This series seeks to explore that nuanced interplay between heritage and modernity. Drawing from the rich visual language of ancient Celtic manuscripts, these works interweave the symbolic and cultural threads of our past with the lived experiences of today’s Celtic identity.

Each piece serves as a conversation between the ancient and the new, blending familiar motifs with modern-day influences. Through thoughtful additions and harmonious alterations, the series bridges the gap between centuries, grounding our present in the enduring rhythms of our lineage. The process itself mirrors this connection to tradition: each piece is painstakingly handcrafted, undergoing multiple firings to layer underglaze, glazes, and enamels, creating a depth and texture that reflect both the complexity of history and the immediacy of now.

In essence, "Contemporary Celtic" stands as a celebration of both continuity and transformation, where the echoes of our ancestors are felt not as distant whispers, but as living influences in the vibrant landscape of 21st-century life.
