About:
Diana Skalkos, born in Cork, Ireland, has lived a nomadic life for 2 decades living in the UK, Europe, and India.. Her artistic journey is deeply informed by this wandering, shaping her work with a fluidity that transcends borders and cultures.
Diana’s formal education in ceramics, design, and sculpture spans institutions such as Chelsea College, Westminster University, and the Crawford College, as well as her less formal training rural village potteries of India and Greece, where her craft was further honed by immersion in traditional techniques. This diverse background has imbued her practice with a fusion of approaches, blending ancient and contemporary, as well as Western and Eastern sensibilities.
At the core of Diana’s work is a profound exploration of human emotion, memory, and identity. Themes such as nostalgia, motherhood, and the complex relationship between self, belonging and place recur throughout her pieces, creating an intimate dialogue between form and feeling. Her sculptures and ceramics are vessels of lived experience, evoking both personal and collective memories.
Having exhibited her work across the globe, Diana continues to evolve, constantly studying and refining her practice. Each piece she creates is a testament to her ongoing quest to capture the essence of human experience in tangible form.
Diana was recently elected as the County Cork, Public Participation Network, Art culture and Languages representative.
